Cardinal Causes Minor Midol Moment

One morning while working, I heard thump, thump, click, click, then a frantic thumping and fluttering sound. Some red bird at the patio door. I shooed it away and went back to work. The thumping and clanking and pecking came back seconds later. So cute. Little bird wants in.

By 10:00 am this was not so cute. It was constant. I put a chair up against the window, with a high contrast in color's coat hanging on it. The bird would attack above and below the chair/coat. If I did not shoo him away, the dogs go attack from the inside. Which is not ideal with Jamie working nights and trying to sleep during the day. This was the most persistent little sucker I've ever seen. Closing the blinds didn't even help. It went on, ALL DAY LONG.

The next day, he's back. I had left for awhile, Jamie was sleeping on the couch. When I returned he was awake, which surprised me. When I asked about it he said it was a little hard to sleep with a little birdie pecking at the window non stop !

Day #3.  Constant pecking, thumping, fluttering up and down the window, barking, shooing, returning, pecking, thumping, banging.  We came up with more window deterrents. To no avail. We assumed this little guy just really wanted in our house.

Day #4.  I've done gone bat-shit-crazy at this point and have decided they don't sell enough Midol to relieve the raw nerves in this house because of a freaking bird !!!

cardinal (4)

Since I can't work well, I decided to Google ways to rid ourselves of this bird while not following through with the in-humane thoughts I was contemplating.

Turns out, this little Cardinal does not want to be our friend, nor does he want in our house. Apparently, Cardinal's are VERY territorial, and during mating season this window and mirror slamming is quite common. They are trying to scare away and/or attack any other male that threatens their territory. So they see their reflections as another bird, therefore doing what they can to get rid of them. So what we have here is a highly agitated Cardinal protecting his women from his no fly zone.

That female ought to feel pretty darn special. No man has ever fought for 96 hours straight for me before.

The End of the Tracks

Recently we went out to supper with Devin. This restaurant was right across the street from a set of tracks. What is it about a set of railroad tracks that draws you in? Next thing you know we are all on it, walking the rails, picking up rocks, talking about how we've all put a coin on them to get run over to keep. Ashlyn of course has not done this yet, so that will have to go on her bucket list. Wish I had my better camera with me, because the tracks also make for some great picture's. I've learned that in the end, it's not always about the quality of the photo, it's just that you captured it.

It doesn't matter how far these tracks run, she'd follow him until the end.

When Devin visits, we hear Devin, Devin, Devin, Devin, Devin approximately 50,000 times. Hopefully he knows it's not to annoy him, it's just what happens when you are her idol.

First Day of Spring - Spring Cleaning List

In our home, Daylight Savings Time just means it's a little harder to get out of bed in the morning.

It also means that Spring is oh so close!  Happy 1st Day of Spring today !

Temps are rising. Snow is melting. Sun is shining. I am smiling. Birds are singing. Kids are scattering about and playing. I'm hearing their playful screams. Balls flying by windows. Shoes and bikes through messy cold puddles. The begging for 10 more minutes of playtime.

It's glorious. I love it. Spring is my favorite season, once the sloppy mess dries up. I also have a love for Spring Cleaning. Some would say I Spring Clean all year long, but I do it more during this time of year. It feels good to throw those windows open, air out the germ infested winter air in our homes. Get rid of those dust bunnies, clear away the clutter, organize the closets, shelves and drawers that have been neglected all winter. We just did the season clothes switch. Put away winter coats and boots. Sprung out the light coats, tennis shoes and flip flops. Pumped to go for outside walks and bike rides. Giving the treadmill and stationary bike in the garage a break.

My dogs can feel it too. They are laying in the sun rays with sleepy eyes half open, feeling the breeze, smelling the smells, rolling in the soggy not quite dried up grass. Just sitting in the yard, taking it all in. Pulling like a mother on the leash because it's been so long since they've had a real walk.

Cinderella Movie

I took Ashlyn and her friend to see the new Cinderella movie. Wish the picture below wouldn't have had that darn glare on it.

cinderella (1)

The little Princess's entered on the red carpet, as a Princess should.

cinderella (2)

The movie was very good, very magical as it should be. Followed the typical Cinderella story line with some added humor in there. I think I enjoyed it just as much as they did. I was surprised at how many young teenagers went to see it. Although I expected to see the younger kids there, it really is a good one for all ages. The previews gave me the slight impression that a few parts could appear a little scary, but that was not the case at all.

cinderella (3)

They also showed an 8 minute clip of the upcoming Frozen Fever. All I can say is it looks like it going to be another really good one with more really good music. I can honestly say, I think these 2 enjoyed that 8 minute Frozen 2 clip just as much, if not a little more, than the whole Cinderella movie. That's not saying the movie was bad, it's just Frozen you know. Kids have that movie on pretty high standards. For good reason too, that little Olaf is my absolute favorite !!

No Words

Sometimes there just really are no words to explain things around here. I guess because this is perfectly normal here. I mean, they are clean.

Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park - Wisconsin Dells

Back in January for Ashlyn's birthday, we did something a little different for her birthday. Since she was away from her old friends, and didn't know very many new friends yet, we took what we'd normally spend on a friend party and went to a water park instead.  We went to Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells. There are many to choose from and they all look fun. We chose to avoid the the parks that had the 'big' kid stuff like the surfing and strong wave pools. This one was small, simple and had a good mix.

It was lot's of fun, not very many people if you went during the week. The weekends are still pretty busy even during the off season.

Her birthday supper that she chose for home was mac & cheese, bacon and cottage cheese.  Several of the picture's in the video are pretty crappy. It went from bright lights, to dark areas and extremely humid and I just had my little pocket camera. Great quality is not there, but documenting the fun was.

Contaminated Supplements Story

Have you heard about the recent reports that the New York State Attorney General's office issued "cease and desist" letters to four large retailers (Walmart, Walgreens, Target and GNC) for selling nutritional supplements that were improperly labeled or contained contaminants. Testing indicated that what they said was in the ingredients on the label, was not in the product. Or contaminants that included ingredients which could be harmful to people with certain food allergies. Instead of me botching up the facts, click here for the link to the actual article.

We see things like this pop up from time to time. You trust in these companies to provide a good quality product, or at least honestly state on the label what truly is in the product. If you are taking a supplement to help you, you surely don't want it to make you worse! I've heard so many times, "don't take anything you can't pronounce" and "you shouldn't take it if you don't know what's in it" and similar comments. So really, what's a person to do. Have you read the bottles of supplements, hell I can't pronounce most stuff that I full well know is a healthy ingredient. And what shall I do. Grab a bottle off the Walmart shelf and bring it to the science lab in my bathroom at home...."Aha ! Gotcha, my at home test just exposed all these companies".  No of course we can't do that. We have to put forth a little trust in these companies, read the labels, do a little research and hope we are making good decisions. We can only do the best we can when making choices.

The best choice I made was changing to the Shaklee brand about 5 or 6 years ago. I trust Shaklee science and testing so much, that I do just order my product and consume without question now. That's how much I trust them. When I see these stories in the news, I have much relief knowing that I don't have that worry with Shaklee.

I proudly use and confidently recommend Shaklee nutritional supplements. Shaklee quality and 100% guarantee assures that what's on the label is in the product. They've been around since 1956. You are assured of purity, potency and performance in each and every bottle. Shaklee's quality control protocol delivers on quality without compromise.

Sometimes a video is way better than words. Especially in this case. Please take 7 minutes to watch this very informative video.

Valentine's, Brothers and Princess Dogs

I'm back after some time off. I think I'm ready to get my post's going again. Because surely my post's are so darn interesting that you all missed me and actually realized I was even absent from the blogging world for a month. Right? Right!

Ashlyn was assigned to bring a treat for her Valentine's Day party at school. We went the non-candy route this year with popcorn.

The day before Valentine's Day, she found this heart shaped rock on the road. How neat huh! If you use a little imagination, her gum-line makes the shape of the top half of a heart. And you can see right up her nostrils, which has nothing to do with hearts.

A surprise visit from her favorite person on earth. Now that I look at this, I'm hoping that sucker wasn't wet yet behind his ear.

Being a Princess is so exhausting. This dog puts up with so much and is so good about it. The other dog....not so much. He's got the attitude of a cat.
