Girls Camping Weekend

Last camping post of the season, I promise ! But this one was different, it was a girls camping weekend. Our 1st Annual Girls Camping Weekend. Only change for next year may be to bump it up to September. We hit that first freeze weekend. The sub-freezing temps. During the day it was great, but was pretty cold at night.

I said to Ashlyn, "Do NOT disturb these geese."

This was literally 2 seconds later.

Here's a little video of picture's. We didn't take a lot of picture's for some reason. Must have been having too much fun.

Painting Pumpkins

We tried to camp as much as we could this October, using every nice weekend we could. We brought our pumpkins with us and painted them there. Which was fun and I didn't worry about the mess near as much. Bonus ! Ashlyn and I put together a video of the picture's. Since she helped choose, she picked out much more than I would have. You will definitely see every single pumpkin being painted, and every angle you could think of seeing them in. Then just a few other boring camping picture's that you could probably care less about.

Did you carve or paint pumpkins this year?

Fun with Friends

One of the cutest little shop's ever had face painting recently. It's called Paxton's Corner Coop. They ice cream. Oh lordy, do they have ice cream. And cupcakes. Heavenly cupcakes. And cookies. Roll-your-eyes-back-in-your-head cookies. Cinnamon rolls. I haven't tried these yet, but don't you think for one minute that I won't soon. So baked goods that are out of this world and with throw your diet for a tail spin since it's impossible to stay out of this place. And they have eggs. The eggs are delish! They are hormone free, antibiotic free and humanely raised free range eggs.

On to the face painting that Paxton's had for the kids.

Elsa painted the faces. She attends many fairs and events all over. She's is soooo good.

Ashlyn was obviously Hello Kitty, her friends were Anna and a tiger.

Just in case Halloween is cold and crappy and I don't get a decent picture. Ashlyn is a Candy Corn Witch.

She went with a friend to Boo at the Zoo. So we have a Candy Corn Witch, a Monster High character (I don't know the names, sorry) and Mal from the Descendants movie.
(The following picture's were stolen from the Mom who took these 3 to the zoo. She may not know I stole them yet, so if and when she reads this...please can I? and thank you kindly, for letting me steal your pic's for my blog).

Small Town Fun

Over a month ago now, we had a little shin-dig for the kids going on in our small town. Those are always the best. Lot's of picture's explain more than me babbling on.

Well, one quick little story. When we got there, before anything really started she said she had a bellyache. So I suggested we could sit under a tree in the shade while we waited. That she should look for a 4-leaf clover. Figuring it would kill time and take her mind off her bellyache. She literally plopped down, reached down and pulled one out. Really. Really?  So that was done and over in 3 seconds.

Tractor pull, she did not place but did very well.

Chase your chicken or duck over the finish line. She placed 1st. (remember the 4 leaf clover for good luck).
FIA 13

This is so funny to watch. Those poor chickens and ducks. I bet they sleep good after this.
FIA 14

She was so excited. She usually does well at things, but rarely wins. Which is good to teach her well about winning isn't everything, and all of these events are for fun.
FIA 15

Well she did have fun, but dang was she excited. She got 2 1st place medals. She's never won anything before, she was very very excited. We've got them proudly displayed in her room. She was impressed that they were real metal, and not plastic. In her eyes, it's the real deal then. Guess that 4 leaf clover really did bring her good luck. We kept it, though a leaf fell off by the time we got home, but we still kept it.

A good ole fun haystack scramble. Or straw. But strawstack scramble sounds funny. Either way, they found a lot of good treasures.

A lot of good treasure's and none of it was candy !!!!   YAY.

We got one of those haircut systems for at home. It was really cheap. As in, one haircut at a barber has paid for it. Jamie was determined to go this route and give it a try. He has way for confidence than I do.

I would suggest at least not starting out with a 7 year old stylist in the dark, trimming away via porch light.

Thankfully, all ended well.

Caramel Apple Pie

I just loooove me some Caramel Apple Pie with the crumbly top! Especially when it's a recipe from the Pioneer Women. You all should know I love her and her recipe's too. Easy, simple and normal. This one is from scratch all the way through. I tried her pie crust from scratch too. Turned out and it was good !  I mean, I knew her's would be good, just didn't know if it would be when I made it. It was.

Clearly, I went heavy on the caramel part.  It's a weakness. That's okay, because the healthy apples cancel out anything bad for you in this recipe. That's my story and I'm stickin to it !

Do you have a caramel weakness?

Compression Sleeves - Review

Compression Sleeves are new to me. I just recently tried my first pair. And you know what, they actually work like they say they do!  Go figure!

This is my first pair of sleeves, so I'm not able to compare these to other brands. This brand is Run Forever. Their customer service has been great by the way. It's worth noting.
The color was awesome, bright and vibrant. Material is very comfortable and soft against skin.

I wore these when on my feet all day, as well as for a few runs, and I walk a lot. They did exactly what they were supposed to, which is compress legs to return oxygen back to the heart for better circulation.

comp sleeves 2

For so long I always assumed these were for hard core athlete's, but they are perfect for a regular Mom like me too. I have a busy lifestyle and I fit in fitness as much as possible. After a long day on my feet, my legs/feet do swell a bit. I thought these really helped lesson that at the end of the day. After a run, my legs do feel different. A good different.

Do you wear compression sleeves? For everything, certain things or just running? I'd love to hear your opinion since they are new to me.

Raniaco Wireless Bike Speedometer - Review

Earlier this year, in the Spring, my bike speedometer quit working. Until it died, I didn't realize how much I relied on it. So when I had the option to review a new one, I jumped on the chance. I love it more than I did my first one.

The brand is Raniaco, and it's wireless. My old one was not. The less wires around your tires and handle bars, the better.

Few things about it.
  • Large numbers. The screen numbers and words are larger than before. While riding your bike, this is very important making it much easier to read.
  • Easy flip through functions. Can easily finagle it while riding.
  • Auto Scan. You can have it scan through the various settings, so it will slowly flip through them on it's own.
  • Set up was a breeze. You just have to enter your tire circumference, set the clock and km or miles and you are set to go. You can enter the last odometer reading from your previous speedometer, or just start at 0.
  • I double checked it's accuracy with some 5-k measurement markings, it is dead nuts on.
  • Settings within the computer include: current speed, odometer, trip distance, max speed, average speed, elapsed time, a clock, freeze frame memory and has auto on/off.
  • Back light feature. This might be one of my favorite. It's awesome actually. I ride early morning or late evening a lot, and given it's darker much earlier/later now it's nice to still see it.

Do you rely on your gadget's as much as I do (and realize it once they are broke)?

Shaklee Kicks Glass

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Not only does Shaklee Dish Washer Powder kick Glass, all Shaklee products kick ass. They really truly do. Plain and simple. The company, through all their studies and testing, have proven them safe and natural. We, the people, have proven them effective. Over and over again.

On to my glassware.Years ago, my glasses looked like the one on the right. I had hard water, and used regular commercial dishwasher soap. Nothing would keep them clear (not lemon, vinegar, etc I tried them all).  I started using  Shaklee's Dish Washer Automatic Powder Concentrate about 5 or 6 years ago, with the same hard water. After about a month or two of switching to Shaklee, they started looking like the glass on the left.

glasses (1)

Fast forward 5 or 6 years to now. After cleaning one of our rental houses a few months ago, the tenant left behind all kinds of cleaners and detergents, pretty much anything that would leak, they did not bring. Even though I've fully switched 100% to all Shaklee products, I couldn't stand seeing some of these things go to waste. Some I passed out to people who wanted them, some I just was not wasting.  Well, I should have wasted them.

glasses (2)

Even though now for the past year, I've had soft water. Obviously, that has made no difference. It is in the detergent, hands down. Glass on the left is with soft water, still using Shaklee's Dish Washer Automatic Powder Concentrate.  One month ago, I started using up with left over dish washing soap from tenant. The glass on the right, is the outcome of that. I don't remember the brand, but it was those little pouches with the liquid and powder in them. To be honest, this happens with most any other brand (in my experience).

glasses (3)

Need I say more, the picture's speak for themselves. The best part, like all other Shaklee Cleaning products, it's concentrated so it takes very little. One bag will last quite awhile. I even use less than the recommended amount because it takes so little and works so well. Like I said, it kicks ass !! I might add, I scrape or rinse nothing off my dishes before loading my dishwasher. I let Shaklee do the work. (Note, on a really gunky stuck burnt around the edges pan, I do spray it with Basic H2 Degreaser strength first.)

A few facts about my beloved Dish Washer Powder.
  • The deep, enzyme-activated cleaning power gently removes tough stains, leaving dishes and glasses sparkling clean.
  • Superconcentrated – cleans 48 loads – just 2 teaspoons in each dispenser cup. (I use a little less)
  • No pre-rinsing needed – Removes dried on food and tough stains, so they don’t get stuck on.
  • Dissolves quickly and completely, getting to work straight away.
  • Absolutely no chlorine and no fragrances, which can pollute the air that you breathe.
  • Comes in a handy resealable pouch with measuring scoop
Clean Credentials
  • Natural
  • Concentrated
  • Biodegradable Surfactants
  • No phosphates
  • No chlorine

So if you were to use the full amount (2 tsp) and get the 48 loads out of one pouch. Basing it off of the Member's Price, you would be spending .20 cents per load to get your dishes the cleanest they've ever been, with no harsh chemicals.  Even cheaper if you use a little less for light loads like I do.

Are your dishes coming out sparkling clean with natural safe detergent?

Halloween Cookies

Aside from our Halloween cat being pink (drying red), they didn't turn out too bad for our first time attempt at piping and flooding the frosting.

Our biggest error, we just jumped right in and gave her a go. Although they look okay, it was a LONG drawn out process that should not have taken as long as it did.

Lessons learned:
  1. Watch You Tube videos BEFORE doing them on how to make the frosting.
  2. Watch You Tube videos BEFORE doing them on how to get the right consistency for the piping and the flooding.
  3. Watch You Tube videos BEFORE doing them on the technique for piping and flooding.
  4. Watch You tube videos BEFORE doing them to realize how time consuming they are and you should only attempt one style of cookie at a time, because doing cats, pumpkins and ghosts basically makes everything three times as long.
  5. Do not think you automatically know all this shit beforehand next time and you'll save those poor little ghosts, cats and pumpkins quite a bit of profanity.

Happy baking if you are doing any for the holidays. Our next batch of cookies should end in better, easier results. Thanks You Tube.
