Shaklee - Enfuselle SPF 30 for Body Broad Spectrum Protection

We are exposed to UV radiation anytime we're outdoors, even on winter or on cloudy days. Research shows that as UV radiation increases, so does the incidence of skin cancer, particularly life-threatening melanoma.

UV rays are the primary cause of accelerated aging, contributing to the discoloration, sagging and wrinkling that results from UV-induced damage to the surface of the skin as well as to the underlying collagen and elastin that give our skin firmness and structure.

As I got older and wiser, and did my own research on this subject, I've been a pretty avid sun protection gal for about the last 10 years. But it doesn't do any good if you don't apply it well. Can you tell where I could and couldn't reach? In the areas that got coverage, look how well it worked.

Over the years, I've also tried to reduce the amount of chemical-based products I use. Sunscreen being a big one.

By combining UVA and UVB sunscreen agents with the patented antioxidant protection of Vital Repair+, Enfuselle SPF 30 for Body provides unique, patented, non-irritating and extremely effective sun protection while using the lowest levels of chemical sunscreens possible.

Extensive independent clinical testing has demonstrated:
  • UVA and UVB (broad spectrum) protection helps inhibit the UV-induced accelerated loss of collagen and elastin.
  • Provides both high-level and broad-spectrum UV protection without irritation.
  • Very high protection against sunburn for blondes, redheads, and fair-skinned persons.
  • Diminishes the visible signs of aging such as fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Oil free.
  • Safe for sensitive skin.
  • Waterproof and sweat-proof.
  • Won't clog pores.

Just like many other Shaklee products, a little goes a long way. Like many people, I didn't care enough to protect my skin from sun damage in my younger days. It's never too late to start. I'm just glad I knew about Enfuselle sunscreen to start protecting Ashlyn right from the start.

When to wear sunscreen & other protective items.

Anytime you are playing in the water, sprinkler or pool. Even on cloudy days.
sunscreen (12)

When you're needing a drink. Swim shirts are great protection.
sunscreen (13)

When geese are crossing.
sunscreen (1)

When you wear purple and you are just so stinkin cute !
sunscreen (3)(4)(5)

When digging large holes. Lightweight breathable hats are great for baby's thin hair (the scalp can burn easily) and neck & face protection.
sunscreen (6)

Even if you are just trying to get a nice quick photo of your kids. That sun can be harsh, even if you aren't out long.
sunscreen (7)

When you just can't take it anymore and you fall asleep in your sandbox.
sunscreen (8)

When choosing flowers to pick.
sunscreen (09)

Especially at the beach. All those rays reflecting off the water and sand. At all times of the day, forget the between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm rule. At the beach, it's all the time.
sunscreen (10)

Sunglasses are a must. Ashlyn wore them more easily when she was younger. She seems to really not want to wear them now. Our eye doctor stressed how important a good pair of shades are for your eyes.

Maybe even when you're having a bad day.

Shades and sunscreen are a must when your ridin' your Harley cruisin' for cute boys.
sunscreen (14)

When your sloshing through puddles.

When you are trying to sneak in some added fiber to your nutrition and diet.

Garmin Forerunner 15 - Review

The running watches, activity watches, GPS's all very overwhelming. My choice was made easy because I didn't want to be forced to pair anything up with my phone. One - because I don't have a Smart Phone, iPhone or whatever. Two - even if I did, I don't want to be bothered by incoming text and phone notifications on my watch. And the data sent to your phone from your watch is so small and hard to read. I like to bring it up on one of those old school computer monitors and see it nice and big and all at once.

garmin watch (1)

I ended up going with the Garmin Forerunner 15. Let's talk refurbished for a moment. People are so scared of refurbished items. Depending on where you are getting it from, whether you trust it or not, if they have any extending guarantee's, you probably have a reason to shy away from refurb items. Garmin and Amazon are very trusted sources. This watch is offered by Garmin as Certified Refurbished and it's backed by a 1 year warranty.

Size & Color
I am wearing the size Small. If you are used to wearing a watch, it won't feel like any big deal. If you are not, it won't take much to get used to. It's extremely lightweight and you don't realize it's there most of the time.

     Size Small: Black/Green, Teal/White, Violet/White
                      watch size: 1.58" x 2.05" x .62"
                      display size: .81" x .77"
                      weighs: 1.3 oz.
     Size Large: Black/Green, Red/Black
                      watch size: 1.79" x 2.25" x .62"
                      display size: .98" x .94"
                      weighs: 1.5 oz

Easy & Simple
Before I hit all the features. This watch is very user friendly. It's simple and easy to use. It's uncluttered and uncomplicated. For the average person, it's perfect! I give the watch a huge thumbs up. I figured I wouldn't pay much attention to the daily activity tracking, but I found I like it just as much as I do using it for running and walking. I found no flaws or problems. All features function exactly as they are supposed to. I love the watch ! Glad I chose this one.

garmin watch (4)

  • Personal Records - Watch yourself improve, it tells you when you set a new fastest mile or longest run to date.
  • Activity Tracking - tracks distance, pace, heart rate, calories and sleep.
  • Heart Rate Monitor - Use with a heart rate monitor to track your heart rate and zone data for any fitness activity. (I do not have)
  • Foot Pot Pairing - Record your distance while running indoors and review your cadence later on Garmin Connect. (I do not have)
  • Garmin Connect - Upload to see your runs on a map. Save, plan and activities.
Motivation by the Mile
It has an auto lap function that automatically alerts you when you complete each mile, giving you a beep and back lit screen that flashes your time for that mile. When you complete your run and save it, you'll see a summary of how you did, including your total time, distance, average pace and calories. It even lets you know when you achieve a personal record, like your fastest mile or longest run to date.

Train Indoors or Out
For outdoor runs, the GPS accurately records your time, pace and distance. To track distance and pace when you hit the treadmill or an indoor track, just pair it with the optional foot pod, which attaches to the laces of your shoe.

Battery Life is Great - Water Rating
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery will last up to 5 weeks in watch/activity tracking mode or 8 hours when using it with GPS on your outdoor runs. It also has a water rating of 5 ATM (50 meters), which means it resists rain and sweat and can even go for a swim with you.

Garmin Connect
This is the free simple connection to your Mac or PC that allows you to upload your activities online. You can see your run on a map, get all the detail from each mile and see daily summary of your activities. You can customize it to what you like to view most on your dashboard. You can also join online challenges and earn virtual badges for extra motivation.

It's very cool to be able to pull up the map of your run or walk and view all the stats about it. I won't be sharing photo's of that feature for privacy reasons, so that psycho stalkers don't have that easy route to my front door. Oh wait, I only have 1 reader any way. Hey Mom !

Just to show you 2 examples of what you can view. These are the expanded views. Your dashboard gives you a quick snapshot of all your activities.

Your steps per day. I set my own goal for 10,000 steps per day. Green days, I met my goal. Blue days, I was too lazy. You can change your goal at any time. It will also auto set your goal for you, based on your daily steps if you want it to.

garmin chart (2)

Sleep Monitoring
Monitors total sleep and periods of movement or restful sleep. I showed you one of my good sleep nights. Otherwise these usually show under an hour of deep sleep, only 5-6 hours total with lots of purple awake times in there. I would probably keel over if it ever logged more than 0 for a nap. Not likely to happen in this lifetime.

garmin charet (1)

Running Features
  • History: holds 7 activities. Once uploaded, you'll have them forever. Once device is full, your oldest data is overwritten.
  • Virtual Pacer: compares current pace to target.
  • Personal Records.
  • Run and Walk Intervals. (My favorite!)
  • Auto Pause: pauses and resumes timer based on speed. (Such as stopping for traffic or traffic lights)
  • Auto Lap: automatically starts a new lap.
  • Calculates calories burned.
  • Customize display screen(s).
  • Shock Resistant.

One day, I would love to upgrade to one of them that has the cycling, swimming, golfing, running and walking options. Especially the feature to create your workouts online at Garmin Connect and send them to your watch, then it will prompt you through your workout. How cool would that be? Who am I kidding, that would probably require phones and apps and be way too fancy-schmancy for this old school girl.

Apparently it's time to end this review and Move !

It Haircare 12-in-One Leave-in Treatment - Review

Years ago I condensed my hair care products dramatically when I discovered It's a 10 Leave-in Treatment. Since it did 10 different things to your hair, it saved you all those other products. I think it truly did what it claimed (repairs dry & damaged hair, adds shine, detangles, controls frizz, seals & protects hair color, prevents split ends, stops breakage, creates silkiness, enhances natural body, flat iron spray & thermal protection).

It's a superior product with excellent quality. But. There's always a but to something great. It comes at a steep price point. It varies online and in the stores, but it's quite high. I think it's worth it, I do. But. There's that but again. But I'm still a tight-ass and I like a good deal as much as anyone.

This is actually a really good price right now. Target and Amazon are my go to stores, and Target has this same 10 oz bottle for $36.99 and it's $28.25 at Amazon. I've actually never seen this size priced so low. Fist bump to Amazon!

I was looking for something in Walgreens one day, I came across a similar product. Sounds to me like a knock off of It's a 10. It was a big 10 oz bottle. It claimed to do all the same things mostly. Except it added two more. Honestly, it's all the same, just reworded to sound like more.
  • Repairs dry, damaged hair
  • Protects from split ends & breakage
  • Shiny & healthy hair
  • Transforms frizz to silk
  • Maximum heat protection
  • Seals & protect hair
  • Removed tangles
  • Restores natural body
  • Abyssinian Oil for silky hair
  • Fuses silk amino acids
  • Infused with silk amino acids
  • Transforms brittle hair

It's called It Haircare 12-in-One Leave-in TreatmentIt's at a much lower price. I had points to burn on my Walgreens card, so I picked this up for $14. But the $19 Amazon has it for sounds about right. Walgreens pricing varies from store to store.
It (3)

How does it compare? I think it's a very close second to It's a 10. I like it just as much, it falls short only slightly. Very slightly. But for the cheaper price, I love it all the same and just as much. It's a 10 is just amazing. It Haircare is a very close runner up and it's very, very good. I'll definitely stick with it.

It (5)

I use it on my own hair as well as my daughters. We spray it on damp towel dried hair, then style as usual. It also makes for a great touch up detangling spray on dry hair for kids. It does have a pleasant smell. Not overpowering, it's very light. Just a couple of sprays does it, you don't need to douse your whole head. When you brush through, it disperses it nicely throughout your hair.

I love that the heat protection is included in both products. I think they both do a good job. Since we all use blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons....I think a good heat protector is easily forgotten.

It Haircare 12-in-One saves on additional product and saves on additional steps.

Have you tried either one of these? Or do you know of any other similar products?

Marbleized Easter Eggs

We gave marbleized eggs a whirl this year. We went the oil route, I hear the shaving cream technique is a good one too.

I have too many photo's for this post, so let's get right into it.

We chose to blow our eggs. You ever tried blowing yours? One thing we don't like about coloring eggs, is having to refrigerate them in order to still use the hard boiled egg. We like to display them. So we gave our first shot at blowing eggs. We had some break and crack, we poked holes too big. We found our later a thumb tack works better than our safety pin and chop stick approach to get started.

First comes the snot.
blow eggs (1)

Then the yolk.   (Not a good idea if you have a headache.)
blow eggs (2)

Since we weren't sick, and no guests would be dining in with us, we decided it was a scrambled egg breakfast kind of morning. (rinse the eggs you'll be using for coloring and allow to dry)
blow eggs (3)

We chose pastel food coloring over the bold this time.
Note: Next year, it would work best to do the first solid color with the pastels, and do the marbling with the bold.
color eggs (1)

Step 1: Add 3/4 cup of warm water in a shallow container. (We used tall glasses, clearly we listen well). Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and about 10 drops of food coloring. Use a lighter color food coloring for this batch.
color eggs (2)

Step 2: Dunk 'em til you like 'em. Make sure the egg is completely covered. Allow it to sit for up to 5 minutes or until you are happy with the color.
color eggs (3)

Since we blew our eggs, they did not sink. So we had to hold them down.
color eggs (4)

Step 3: Remove egg from dye and place it on a drying rack to completely dry.
color eggs (5)

color eggs (6)

Step 4: In a different shallow container (we listened this time), place 3/4 cup of warm water. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil and about 10-20 drops of a different color food coloring to the water. Be sure to use a darker color for this batch.
color eggs (7)

Step 5: Our instructions said to submerge the egg into container and roll it around. We found it worked better to roll the egg around on top of the water, which worked well since ours were hollow. Submerging seemed to 'blend the colors' too much. Either way, allow your egg to dry on the rack when your happy with your marble effect.
color eggs (8)

Step 6: Allow egg to dry completely. About 10-15 minutes. Because of the oil, the outside of the egg will continue to look wet. Once you know the dye is dry, use a paper towel to gently wipe excess oil off.
color eggs (9)

Step 7: You can repeat this process for as many different layers and color combinations as you like. We just did 2 colors per egg. Maybe we'll get a little crazier and rebel like next year and go for 3 !

After wiping oil off, this is what you'll get. Unless we completely screwed them up, in which case you better start following Martha Stewart instead.

Skincare: Shaklee Enfuselle & Rosehip Seed Oil

Today, many people are discovering how many chemicals are in our everyday products we use on our bodies. Many people are going back to natural ingredients as a healthier alternative, and turning away from chemical-based beauty products. I think we are all finding better results and that it's far more cost effective.

Back when I first heard about and started using Shaklee, I began with their amazing non-toxic cleaners. I slowly dappled in the supplements and skincare as well. Realizing the same exact thing that I did with the cleaners.....these are awesome amazing products for such an inexpensive price. The skincare line is like the cleaners in that, they will last you a very, very long time.

I quickly ditched or used up everything else I had, except one item. This one product I could not live without no matter how good Enfuselle is.

Shaklee Enfuselle Skin Care

That skincare superstar Seed Oil.

I'll run down all the benefits and uses, but one of the best things about this oil, is that it is wonderful for all skin types. Dry, normal and oily. Yes! It will balance out your oily skin. Again, like Enfuselle, this product will last awhile. For my face and neck, I use only 3 drops.
  • Comes from the seeds of the rosehip fruit, a wild plant that grows in Chile.
  • Extremely high in essential fatty acids (over 70% of the rosehip seed is fatty acid)
  • Rich in vitamins and antioxidants (vitamin C, Vitamin A and linoleic and linolenic acids), all rock stars for the skin and hair.

rosehip 2

Rosehip oil claims to (I say claims to because I cannot personally verify some of them):
  • Hydrate dry skin
  • Repair damaged skin
  • Reduce appearance and texture of scars
  • Reduce dark spots or age spots
  • Reduce fine lines
  • Fights premature aging
  • Fights acne and problem skin
  • Promotes healing of skin problems such as acne, eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis
  • Works wonders for dry scalp and itchiness due to chemicals in shampoo
  • Moisturizes dry and damaged hair
  • Even skin tone and correct UV damage from the sun
  • It's anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant, which helps to decrease environmental damage and soothe skin

It is incredibly gentle and can be applied to the skin undiluted. I use it mostly on my face, every morning and evening. I have used it periodically on my hands, feet and hair. All with fantastic results. It's different than jojoba oil, coconut oil and others in that it's a 'dry oil'. Which means that it doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy, but soaks into the skin immediately and leaves it feeling soft and supple. Unless you put way too much on that is.

  • Overall excellent skin moisturizer
  • Leaves the surface of the skin looking smoother and softer
  • Goes deeper than the surface to encourage healthy cell production
  • Quick absorption
  • Non greasy feel
  • Packed with natural vitamins and essential fatty acids
  • Brightens skin and adds clarity and elasticity
  • Great for dry skin, oily skin, and also sensitive skin types

I have heard many people have used this on sun burnt skin. I rarely get a sun burn, but will be trying it if I do and will report back.

This is the one I have right now. I don't favor a certain brand, I just look for unrefined and cold pressed. I encourage you to give one a try, it's the best thing I've ever put on my face and skin.

Rosehip oil must be the HIPpest oil around !  AHH-Haaa!!  Nevermind.

Here's a link to a page of more Rosehip Seed Oil choices, varying in size and price. Again, I always get unrefined and cold pressed, but it's completely your choice. It's a personal preference only, if the quality matters to you and the price point at which you're comfortable spending.

Note: Cold Pressed is a method of mechanical extraction where heat is reduced and minimized throughout the batching of the raw material. This helps the oil maintain its original state. Though it's more expensive, cold-pressed is best as it hasn't been altered by heat and retains more nutrients.

What amazing superstar product do you know about? I'd love for you to share.
Are you already a fan of Rosehip Seed Oil?

Camping Itch

We are patiently waiting for this last bit of chilly weather to pass. The camping itch is in full swing.

Looking forward to the bonfires and cookouts, fishing, talking and laughing around the campfire, the forced break from real life busy-ness.

Taking the dogs on so many walks they can't keep their eyes open, fresh is so different when you're relaxing and not working, it's good for everyone. Still not sure I'm ready for s'mores yet, I got pretty burnt out on them last season.

fishing (3)

Going on nature walks, scavenger hunts on the trails, bringing out good ol board games, playing in the sand and dirt, the screams of kids playing hard, washing all the dirt off of them at the end of the day just to be repeated the next day.

What is your go to enjoyment for the summer? Got any great camping tips or fun ideas for us?

Me and the Boys and a Bunny

Ashlyn took this picture of me and the boys. She asked if I'd post it with the picture's of the bunny we saw this morning.

Me & Boys

So this morning as we are getting ready for school, we see this cute little bunny just hanging out on the deck. We watched him or her for about 5 minutes before being scared off.
